A big, black, and beefy cow. Buffalo Springs is ED/E+ at the Extension locus (she inherited the ED allele from JW Asphalt and the E+ allele from Samburu), and is SP/- at the Spotting locus (which accounts for the small amount of white on the belly and hind quarters). Her first calf was nearly all white, which resulted from the genotype E+/- SP/- Cs/cs+. Depending on the genotype of the bull she is bred to, she could produce calves of almost any color and pattern (except true solid red). Buffalo Springs comes from the Phillips, WR, Wright, and Butler families of Texas Longhorns.
